Early Times Report

Srinagar, Dec 5: Despite police laying a siege around entire Maisuma locality and adjoining areas here to foil proposed Lal Chowk march on Monday, the so-called JKLF Chief Yasin Malik managed to give a slip to police raising concerns over government preparedness to handle the separatists. Police had sealed roads leading to the residence of Malik despite strict cordon Malik surfaced in adjoining Sarai Bala area this afternoon to lead a procession.
A handout released by the JKLF said: "Yasin sahib along with hundreds of people who managed to reach Sarai Bala despite heavy restrictions and curfew marched towards Lal chowk from Buqa Aaliya Saraibala and when this procession reached near Hari-Singh High Street Chowk, police and forces cordoned it from all sides and arrested Yasin sahib along with senior leaders."
The JKLF confirmed that its leaders had managed to give a slip to police. "Malik had gone into hiding last evening to evade his arrest," the JKLF spokesman said.
He said Malik managed to address people despite restrictions enroute. "Despite all these measures Yasin Sahib who had gone into hiding from last evening managed to reach Buqa Aaliya Dastigeer sahib and after Zuhr prayers led a peaceful rally towards Lal Chowk. Prior to his arrest, Yasin Sahib addressed people inside Buqa Aaliya and also talked to media outside the Masjid," the spokesman said.
Sources said the government has taken a serious note of the lapse on the part of police and other security forces to have failed to keep Malik confined to his Maisuma residence.
It was reliably learnt that the police have taken a serious note about the failure of the Police to keeping a watch on separatists. "Separatists giving a slip to police is not a good sign," said a senior official. He said the government was likely to order an inquiry into the lapse.
