Terrorism dominates Heart Asia Conference | | | Terrorism dominated the Heart of Asia conference on at Amritsar on Sunday and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and Afghanistan President, Ashraf Ghani, were together at their best while condemning terrorism in any form. The Conference saw both India and Afghanistan raise the pitch on terror and in clear terms asked Pakistan to take action against terrorism emanating from its soil., Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani pointedly asked Pakistan to stop its aid to terrorists and said, "Afghanistan suffered the highest number of casualties last year. This is unacceptable...About 30 terrorist groups - named by the UN - are trying to establish their base in AfghanistanIn a snub to Pakistan, which has for decades tried to control the narrative in Afghanistan by its leverage over the Taliban, Ghani had a clear message: "Pakistan has pledged 500 million dollars for Afghanistan's development, this amount Mr.Aziz (Sartaj) can be spent in containing extremism," he said. "A key Taliban leader has himself admitted to getting sanctuary in Pakistan." India, has been repeatedly asking the global community to act against terrorist networks operating from Pakistan, stood firmly with Afghanistan on the menace of terror. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said crackdown on terrorism was vital to Afghanistan's prosperity. For peace in the south Asian region. "Terrorism and externally induced instability pose the gravest threat to Afghanistan's peace, stability and prosperity. Our words and actions remain focus on building, strengthening and securing Afghan's territory and its citizens from external threats. Our gathering today re-affirms the commitment of the international community to durable peace and lasting stability in Afghanistan. We must demonstrate strong collective will to defeat terrorism… Silence and inaction against terrorism in Afghanistan and our region will only embolden terrorists and their masters," Modi said. If the conference was meant to present a unique opportunity to both India and Afghanistan to present a united front to the world against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism both India and Afghanistan have succeeded. Both countries have in the recent past pointed to various terrorist attacks that can be traced back to Pakistan. Sunday's show of solidarity should send a strong message to Pakistan that it needed to rein in its terrorist networks. Will Pakistan listen to it ? Possibly not because already the new Pak Army Chief has directed his troops to retaliate with force fury any ceasefire violation by Indian troops when the reality is that since middle of September Pakistani troops have been resorting to unprovoked ceasefire violations. And whenever the Indian troops retaliate with force and fury Pakistan raises an alarm and starts breast beating. In fact Pakistan has been emboldened by super powers which have adopted mute silence over the issue of export of terror by Pakistan to Afghanistan and to India. Now a former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has said that India too is responsible for the turmoil in Kashmir when he should know it better than anybody else that infiltration, moral, material and diplomatic support to terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir and to the separatists has been the root cause of tension and turmoil in Kashmir.
