JU organizes 15th Prof. BD Sharma Memorial Inter-departmental/Inter-Collegiate debate

Jammu, Jan 23: NSS, University of Jammu today organised 15th Prof. B. D. Sharma Memorial Inter-Collegiate/Inter-Departmental Debate on the topic in the opinion of the house "The Economic Interlinking of SAARC countries can bring peace in the South Asian Region" at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu. This event is organized every year by the Office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS, and University of Jammu in the memory of Prof. B.D Sharma a renowned economist of the state. Speaking on the occasion Prof.R. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu said that the topic of the debate competition is very relevant . He said that the economy is very important and the policy making decisions evolve round the economy of the country. He said that the economic dynamics are going to define the relations between the countries as the cold war era is a passe now.
Earlier, Prof. Jasbir Singh, Chairman, NSS Campus units, University of Jammu welcomed the participants and introduced the theme of the debate. He also highlighted the academic and research achievements of Prof. B.D. Sharma.
In all 17 teams comprising of 34 participants participated in the competition.
The first, second and third prizes were won by Zain-ul-Abdeen Banday, Dept. of Political Science, University of Jammu, Ekta Choudhary, JK College of Education, Sahil Mehta, Dept. of Economics University of Jammu. Harneet Singh, from Directorate of Distance Education and Sapna, JK Colege of Education got the encouragement prizes. NSS Unit of Social Sciences and Languages, University of Jammu bagged the 15th Prof. B.D. Sharma Running Trophy. Dr. Anju Thappa introduced the judges to the audiences. Mr. Jagdish Chander, Dr. Aruna Sharma and, Prof. Monika Sethi, were the Judges for the competition.
Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr. Hema Gandotra.
Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, DSW, Prof Parmeshwari Sharma,Chiarperson Campus Cultural committee, Dr. Aroon Sharma, son of Prof. B.D Sharma, Prof Neeru Sharma, Dr. Sanjay Sharma , Dr. Virender Koundal, Dr. Prakash Chand and Dr. Neharica Subhash also graced the occasion. Tarun, Tsering, Romi, Ruhi, Swati, Priyanka, Mohit, Balwant, Ashish, Jago were also present on the occasion.
Shruti Nagar compered the programme.
