From media hungry to media introvert, BJP's decree 'not to speak' irking Jammu | "High Command" will decide-is a common phrase | | "Off the Cuff" ET Report JAMMU, Jan 23: Since the outcome of the results of the state assembly elections, followed by the stalemate over the government formation and imposition of Governor Rule in Jammu and Kashmir, the ever media-hungry Bhartiya Janta Party has self-styled itself into an impregnable forte turning to be media introvert. Astonishing it may sound, but the fact is that during electioneering in the state, from Prime Minister Narinder Modi to the lowest rung state leader in Jammu and Kashmir, all were very vocal and desirous for being n the limelight to grab 'mission 44+ impossible', but let go the elections and come the results, the party announced decree 'not to speak'. This has started turning to be an 'uncomfortable' answer for Jammuites who gave them mandate to rise from 11 in 2008 to 25 in 2014. " We do not find any exciting statement coming from any quarter ,be it on the government formation or its nomination of men for the RS elections which has started giving an apparent inkling that BJP is not a party in the state , but just a second fiddle to government in the center," said Rajesh Mahajan an ardent supporter of the party for its Jammu based agendas. Another amazing concern that hangs around since the outcome of the results is union minister in PMO Jitender Singh's frequent visits to Jammu and address to the media in a very guarded approach. He is the only BJP leader who has addressed media more than half a dozen times in Jammu after the elections results were out but has always very cleverly managed to keep at bay the queries put forth to him regarding the processes taking shape for the government formation and other allied questions. "I am not designated to answer the query," has been his simple crafted answer on all issues, be it the government formation, modalities of the Governor rule, Pak firing on the border or even the refugees issues. None of the national leader or the state local leader or the party spokespersons who in pre-elections were seen in hordes in every nook and corner of the region are missing now. None of them is approachable. Somehow, if anybody gets connected, he simply seeks excuse not to say anything, putting onus on high command's diktat -'not to speak'. If the grapevine is to be believed , not only the people of Jammu , but their elected BJP representatives from different constituencies, who once upon a time had shown buoyed up expectancy to be the front runners in the government process, now are seen cursing 'high command' behind the veils. "Though it was Modi Wave that helped our numbers surge to 25, but choking down our voices will bring no good to the state party. Already people have understood that party is budging under other regional parties for government formation compromising on its ideology. This would render us as mere puppets after any coalition government is formed," said one of the elected BJP MLA wishing not to be named. |
