Political parties yet to decide on candidature for 4 RS seats | | | Bashir Assad
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 23: Following the notification for the 4 RajyaSabha seats issued on Jan 20, it is reliably learnt that PDP has zeroed in on its two defeated candidates, Nazir Ahmad Laway and Fayaz Ahmad Mir for nomination on two of these posts. Laway and Mir contested the elections from Kulgam and Kupwara constituencies unsuccessfully since 2008. Laway lost to the Marxist MY Tarigami with a thin margin both in 2008 and 2014. Fayaz too lost to NC's Mir Saifullah for the second time since 2008. Meanwhile, no political party including PDP, BJP, NC and Congress have officially nominated their candidates so for. PDP and BJP, according to the reliable sources are still in consultation process to fight the RS elections in alliance. This according to the sources is essentially required to bag all the four seats. "We are in touch with PDP leadership and are hopeful to arrive at some decision on the issue" a senior BJP leader told early times. He said the process of discussions on the contours of the alliance has been expedited after the Election Commission of India issued notification for the 4 RS seats. The BJP leader said that it was very likely that a PDP-BJP alliance will be in place before the last date for filing the nominations for the 4 RS seats. Refuting the reports about the seat sharing arrangement on 3:1 (PDP 3 and BJP 1) the BJP leader said that no such decision has been taken. The BJP leader hinted that there will a seat sharing agreement on 2:2 basis. Meanwhile sources in PDP told Early Times that the party leadership has already started consultations about the party nominees. They said that it was unlikely to decide about the nominations before the presidential elections of the party slated for January 24. Meanwhile congress has said that the party was in no hurry to nominate the candidates. Congress party sources daid that the party wad not having to the numbers and as such it has decided to wait till BJP and PDP decide on the candidature. They said that congress leaders were in touch with the smaller groups and that it has not closed the option to approach National Conference on the issue. "Let PDP and BJP decide first because they have the numbers" a senior congress leader told Early Times. |
