JAMMU, Jan 23: A six-day long Adolescent Education Programme was organized by Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies (CWS), MIER College of Education. The focus of the programme was to generate awareness among the adolescents on various challenges and provided suggestions and strategies to face the complexities of life with confidence, maturity, and self-esteem. The target group of the program was students of Class VIII of Model Academy School. The programme was divided into six modules namely Introduction to Adolescence as a concept, Stages of Adolescence; Life skills and Decision-making; Assertiveness; Chance at buying happiness; Adolescent Health; Stress and its impact. The resource persons for the various modules were Angela Gadroo, Assistant Professor, MIER College of Education; Auditi Malhotra, Assistant Professor, MIER College of Education; JasleenMohial, Coordinator Model Academy; Bharti, Teacher Model Academy; Prince, Teacher Model Academy and Monika Rathore, Coordinator CWS. The resource persons oriented the adolescents on the key issues faced by them during this crucial phase of their life and emphasized that adolescence is not just physical growth it is also the emotional, social and mental growth of an individual. They have to be very alert during this period as this is the foundation of their life. It is at this time that they have to make long lasting decisions, which will affect their future so they need to nurture a positive self-image and not give in to external pressures. DrRenu Gupta, Director MIER lauded the efforts of the Centre for Women Studies (CWS), which has taken up this initiative of providing orientation to the adolescents which would go a long way in helping them deal with this delicate phase of their life. |
