Jammu, Mar 13: Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), sports events in the discipline of athletics, tug of war, cricket and judo, exclusively for handicapped boys and girls, got underway at Guru Harkrishan Public School Nanak Nagar, here today. In all, 76 boys and girls drawn from various social organizations and institutions are taking part in this competition. Earlier, Deputy Director of DYSS, Rishi Kumar Bhagat declared open the sports meet. Speaking o the gathering, she said, "The main objective of this sports meet is to build self confidence among those mentally challenged and physically handicapped students as they are part and parcel of our society." Among others present were Assistant Director, Rupinderjeet Kour, Principal of the School for Hearing Handicapped, J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, Shaeedi Chowk, Roshan Bhan and Principal of host Guru Harkrishan Public School, Reeta Poply. |
