Jammu, Mar 13: While the PDP-BJP government did not have a good start and remained surrounded by controversies from the very beginning, one of its minister has now become a cause of nuisance and it has become difficult to handle him.
Health and Medical education Minister Lal Singh of course had changed his party, his attitude remains unchanged. And that is precisely the issue that will impact the BJP in coming days.
BJP finds itself in an embarrassing situation following the alleged misbehaviour with a female doctor by Lal Singh. He is accused of humiliating a lady doctor for not wearing an apron at a social function linked to health.
Lal Singh had created series of scenes in his earlier tenure as health minister. It was a key factor for the Congress to send him to Lok Sabha.
After Congress denied him the mandate for the third time, he joined BJP. Then, BJP was averse to his inclusion, primarily because of his temper. BJP sources said they had already briefed the high command over the way Singh has been ruling and, sometimes, overrunning the crucial health ministry.
Earlier, resident doctor's association of SMHS and Associated Hospitals had strongly condemned the misbehaviour and indignified conduct of the minister towards the hospital staff including resident doctors, paramedics and senior faculty members.
"There has to be a professional way of dealing with each and every situation," the association said in a statement. "Similar episode happened a few days back when the minister had allegedly misbehaved with the faculty and resident staff of government medical college Jammu."
Dr Gurmeet Kour has already registered a criminal complaint against Singh for misbehaving with him. She is registrar of the Psychiatric Diseases hospital, Jammu. She alleged that the minister misbehaved with her and used 'unparliamentarily' language during inaugural function of new psychiatric campus building here.
"I was directed by the senior doctor to attend the inauguration function, wherein the minister was the chief guest. We went to the function, which was more like a political rally with slogans in favour of BJP and the minister resonating the hospital premises," she said, adding that the doctors stood at the corner of the hall to listen to the minister.
"However, I was shocked and highly disappointed after the minister misbehaved with me. He had some reservation with my Apron and when I tried to put my point, he heckled me," said the aggrieved doctor. The doctor has registered complaint with the concerned police station and has sought an FIR against the minister, besides apology for talking 'rudely' to a woman officer in full public view.
"I have lodged complaint with the Bakshi Nagar police station against the health minister for misbehaving and senior police officer has promised me that he will pursue the case," she said, adding that she wants action against the minister for 'humiliating' her. "Due to this episode I am agonizing and sulking. If this is what a people's representative is doing with doctors, what can a common man expect from such arrogant and haughty minister," she maintained. |
