CRPF refuses to vacate hotels | Seeks alternate accomodation | | Shakeel A Khan Early Times Reoport SRINAGAR, Mar 13 : Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has expressed its unwillingness to vacate the hotels in the valley which they have been occupying ever since the outbreak of militancy. The unwillingness on part of CRPF may trigger another political uncertainty in the valley. Sources told Early Times that CRPF top brass has come out with a response to the state government's plans to relocate it saying that they will not move out of the hotels unless and until alternate accommodation is provided to them. "The IG CRPF has made it clear during that the force is not ready to live in the temporary accommodations which may be provided to them by the state government. The CRPF higher ups are maintaining that there is no information regarding the relocation of the force," said sources. The sources said that if the government provides alternate accommodation to them then only the CRPF would move out of their present places of settlement. The assurances of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to the tour and travel agencies that CRPF will be relocated from the hotels of the valley, has been followed by statement from the forces that all this is not possible before an alternate accommodation is provided to them. "As of now there is no communiqué from the government to vacate the hotels and the guest houses. And if the government decides to go ahead with this plan then it is its job to provide alternate accommodation, not the temporary one," said sources while quoting IG CRPF. Sources said that IG CRPF has admitted that 15 hotels and guest houses are under the occupation of the forces in Srinagar alone and if they are asked to vacate these places then they will have to live in the tented accommodations which will not be ideal anyway. It is pertinent to mention here that Mufti while talking to the various tour and travel agencies couple of days before had assured that the hotels and guest houses under the occupation of the paramilitary forces will be vacated by them to pave way for the smooth tourism activities. This move of the government is aimed at providing the accommodation to the tourists, domestic as well as foreign who rush to the valley immediately after the spring sets in. |
