Jammu, Mar 13: Hundreds of Academic Arranged Teachers (AAT) for the year 2014 today staged a massive demonstration outside the official residence of Education Minister Nayeem Akhter, demanding the continuation of their services. Scores of AAT teachers gathered outside the premises of Education Minister official residence Gandhi Nagar and staged protest demonstration in favour of continuation of their services. The protesters also reportedly started hunger strike. Protesters while talking to Early Times said that they were appointed on the basis of merit vide state Govt order no 482- EDU of 2014 at vacant posts. However, the authorities have not issued any further order for the continuation of their service, resulting in panic among hundreds of serving temporary teachers. "We are concerned as there has been no continuation order from the authorities yet. Our livelihood is totally dependent on this job and if authorities don't issue fresh orders of our continuation our family will face starvation" said an agitated temporary teacher, wishing anonymity. Criticizing the newly elected coalition government of BJP-PDP, the protesters alleged that before government formation, these leaders had been assuring them, they would continue their services, once the government would be formed. "But it is very unfortunate that after nearly a fortnight since government formation, no word from government side has come", they regretted, adding that they have met several Ministers of BJP and also of PDP, but except assurances they hadn't got anything. "If same will be the attitude of these leaders with us, we will teach these leaders a lesson in near future", they said. The agitating temporary teachers requested the Education minister to concede their long pending demands without any further delay, otherwise they would be compelled to take some drastic steps. |
