3/14/2015 12:00:03 AM
Srinagar, Mar 13: In response to the much publicized Doodipora Killing 2006 in which four teenagers were allegedly killed by security forces, the J&K High Court today directed police to complete investigation into the case within four weeks. A Single Bench of the court comprising Justice Bansi Lal Bhat today passed the orders following perusal of the status report filed by the police and directed the police to complete investigation within four weeks. Advocate P Imroz, counsel for petitioners, victim families, said, the investigating officer has confirmed the role of main accused captain (now Major) Nitin Dutta (alias Rambo and Aijaz Khan) in the killings when the soldiers of 33 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) allegedly had shot four teenagers dead while they playing cricket in Doodipora of Handwara Kupwara district on February 22, 2006. While the army had held militants responsible for the shootout, the locals in its sharp contrast denied the army's viewpoint. The killing sparked massive protests across the district forcing the then state government to order a probe into the killings. Sequently on September 27, 2006, the enquiry officer issued a notice HC-10/06/01 calling upon all concerned persons having knowledge about the incident to appear and furnish information on affidavits on October 09, 2006 and many locals got statement of facts recorded duly supported by affidavits. Meanwhile Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) stated Captain Nitin Dutta himself has given a statement that he had immediate command and control of the operation. The JKCCS also accused army of filing a false FIR to stall investigations and delay the case.
