Jammu, Mar 13: In what could be termed as the negligence of Transport Department, dozens of colonies in Jammu city sans public transport facility, despite having road connectivity for years.
Rajinder Nagar, Swaran Vihar and Police Colony via Bantalab route is one of the example facing the highhandedness of public transport service, which still sans any public transport facility since years.Dewan Chand Rathore, a resident of Rajinder Nagar said that Jammu city has huge fleet of public transport, the passengers are uncomfortable while commuting through the town. One faces the ground reality on venturing to take a minibus during peak hours on some busy route."One finds hundreds of passenger vehicles have been deployed unevenly on some routes of the city while some of the city routes are over burdened, some are still waiting for a single minibus to ply over", Rathore said.
He further said that he had to walk around 2 kilometers to reach Bantalab main chowk to board the minibus, "If we hire an auto rikshaw to board the minibus they charge Rs. 50 of few kilometers, it is difficult for poor people to use that type of transport facilities", he added.
"People in these areas have to walk kilometers to board a minibus from other routes. In the absence of any public transport facility in the said areas, the hapless people who don't own any personal vehicle have to bear the brunt of the official apathy. Due to this, the students, employees and other commuters have to foot the distance for reaching their respective destinations. Old aged and women with children suffer badly in such circumstances", they said.
Around 800 families resided in Rajinder Nagar, Swaran Vihar and Police Colony but sans public transport facility. However, in main road Bantalab where more than one hundred mini bus fly over daily but the state government as well as concerned department didn't bother our repeated request.
It is the responsibility of department concerned to distribute permit on such route where have road connectivity but has nothing done by department and issued permit to private transporter their own choice. "Senior citizens, who feel painful to walk kilometers to board minibus", Ram Lal, resident of Police Colony said, adding that the residents of these localities strongly castigate transport authorities for their failure to provide public transport facility.
He further said that many times they also appealed former transport Minister to direct transport authorities to ply public transport facility on said routes during summer and winter aged persons children and ailing persons face much hardship to reach main road on foot but no action will be taken.
At last, they all in voice appealed to Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to direct department concern to issue few permit on this route.
