Floods claim 300 lives in J&K | 2,61,361 families affected, 12 dead bodies yet to be recovered | | Bivek Mathur Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 7: 300 persons including 217 from Jammu and 87 from Kashmir have died till date due to floods in the state Government today disclosed in the State Legislative Assembly. The details were provided in reply to a question of MLA Reasi Ajay Nanda. Replying another question of the MLA, government revealed that the state cabinet vide order number 137/13/2014 dated 20.10.2014 sanctioned allotment of 10 Marlas of land to flood affected families whose houses have been fully damaged and they have been rendered houseless/landless. However, with respect to Reasi constituency no such case has been received in Revenue department for allotment of land. In reply to another question regarding the region-wise, total number of families registered for flood relief during 2014-15, the government revealed that 2, 61, 361 numbers of families were affected during floods in the state. "A total of 12 dead bodies were not recovered till date in the state and all unrecovered bodies are from Jammu province", the government reply reads. Further replying to the queries of the MLA Reasi regarding the availability of special funding from Government of India for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood affected families of, the government's tabled reply read that Rs. 2 lacs for death and Rs. 0.50 lacs for injured persons has been sanctioned out of Prime Minister's Relief Fund. Government of India, sanctioned Rs. 1 lacs to fully damaged pucca house and 0.50 lacs for fully damaged kacha house and the amount is being transferred directly to individual accounts. |
