BJP was never under such sharp attack | Betrayal, betrayal, betrayal | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 7: The BJP was never under such sharp attack as it has been since March 1, 2015. That day, the BJP became part of the coalition government that was formed the same day in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah, former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, former Union Minister Murli Manohar Joshi and a number of other top BJP leaders such as Ram Madhav, who, along with a couple of other politicians, formulated the Agenda of Alliance". Ever since then, the BJP has been under attack from all sides. The major charge against it is that it has "sold out Jammu and harmed the national interest and emboldened fundamentalist forces in the Valley" and those who have been criticizing the BJP has been saying that "the BJP has proved worse than the Congress and the Kashmiri parties". The displaced Kashmiri Pandits are condemning the BJP and saying that "a delegation of the Panun Kashmir will first meet leaders across party lines and draw their attention towards the lurking danger to security and integrity of the country". They are also threatening an agitation. The organizations of West Pakistan refugees have also been questioning the very intentions of the BJP and accusing it of "letting them down very badly". "The BJP has insulted us by incorporating in the Agenda of Alliance a point that talks about our sustainability and livelihood. We were demanding citizenship rights. We voted for the BJP in the Lok Sabha election because it had assured us that the BJP government at the centre will grant citizenship rights to them. The BJP has cheated and insulted us. We will avenge our humiliation," the WPR organizations have been saying. The refugees from Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) have also been using a very strong language against the BJP and saying, "We had never expected that the BJP would make a fool of us to garner votes and abandon us after coming into power". "We voted for the BJP on the clear understanding that it will help us get due compensation for the properties we left behind in 1947-1948, but the BJP has been behaving like the Congress and the NC and adopting delaying tactics. It has betrayed us and the West Pakistan refugees," they have been saying day after day. What is significant is the ganging up of the Congress and the National Panthers Party (NPP) against the BJP. Both the parties, which have also been responsible for the neglect of Jammu region, have launched a blistering attack on the BJP and accused it of betraying the people of Jammu region. "The BJP has given a severe blow to and betrayed the people of Jammu region and adjoining areas of neighbouring states by reversing the decision to set up an AIIMS-like centre in Jammu," the Congress on Saturday said, adding that "the state government had announced that it would set up an AIIMS-like institute in south Kashmir, despite the fact that the Centre had announced it for Jammu during the Budget session". "Union Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh had confirmed that AIIMS had been sanctioned for Jammu and claimed that justice had been delivered to the state in the Union Budget…Soon after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley finished his speech in the Lok Sabha, Jitendra Singh walked up to his seat and thanked him for sanctioning an AIIMS and an IIM for the state," the Congress spokesperson Ravinder Sharma further said. He said what the people of Jammu region actually believe in. The same day, not one but two top NPP leaders, Bhim Singh and Harsh Dev Singh, trained their guns at the BJP and leveled many serious charges against its leadership. "It was complete sell out of the Jammu voters by the BJP for power and petty loot of State exchequer at the hands of Kashmiri rulers which is evident from the record of the assembly proceedings. The BJP Speaker (Kavinder Giupta) was abused and humbled by NC legislator, thus disgracing the dignity of the House. BJP with its 26 MLAs with 2 borrowed from Kashmir dared not speak a word in defence of its own party Speaker. BJP has failed to act even as 'B' team rather it (is being treated) as 'X' team with no respect or dignity. The BJP sold out the interest of the people of Jammu for couple of chairs and to share loot with Kashmiri rulers for swallowing all the insults," said Bhim singh, chief patron of the NPP. He also charged the BJP with "selling out the interest of nearly 15 lakh refugees", and said the "BJP buried Article 370 into the depth of the River Jhelum, thus betraying its own agenda just for power sake". He levelled several other serious charges against the BJP. Equally sharp was the attack of Harsh Dev Singh against the BJP. Attacking the BJP for what he called "its cowardly surrender over the issue of grant of Dogra Certificate to Jammu youth", chairman of NPP Harsh Dev Singh reminded its legislators that the "said issue was incorporated as one of the solemn pledges of the saffron party in its 'Vision Document' released during the recent assembly elections". He regretted that "not a single BJP MLA raised his voice against the categorical refusal…in granting Dogra Certificate to Jammu youth communicated in the Legislative Assembly by Revenue Minister in reply to Assembly Question raised by one of the Assembly members", and added that "the Dogra certificate besides being a symbol of Dogra identity further confers certain privileges upon the Dogra youth in Army, CRPF, besides other Para-military forces in the form of relaxation of certain physical parameters". He also reminded the BJP that it was in the "forefront of the protests at that time and had used the choicest adjectives to spit venom against its political adversaries for having succumbed to the pressures of Kashmir separatists" and asserted that the "BJP MLAs in 2011 created a storm in the assembly with all their jangle and rattle disrupting the proceedings and denouncing the Congress and NC for depriving the Dogra youth of their legitimate right to Dogra certificate". Not only this, the former MLA and Cabinet Minister also said that the "issue was further exploited by the BJP during the assembly elections with holding out grandiloquent promises of restoring the Dogra certificate, besides assuring the Jammu youth of their due and reasonable share in employment opportunities in the State". The BJP will have to pay a very heavy price for "betraying" the people of Jammu region, he also asserted. However, it was the Jammu and Kashmir Youth Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKYSAC) that lambasted the BJP from disgracing the legacy of Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, who had laid down his life in Kashmir on June 23, 1953 to integrate the state fully with India. The target of the JKYSAC was BJP national president Amit Shah. Slamming Amit Shah for what it called his "childish statement" on the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir and describing the BJP's participation in it as a tribute to the martyrdom of Mookerjee, the JKYSAC said that "Amit Shah has tried to mislead the nation over the mission of Mr Mukherjee, who sacrificed his life for attaining 'Ek Pardhan, Ek Nishan & Ek Vidhaan' (one prime minister, one flag and one constitution) in the entire country". "The mission of Mukherjee remained unfulfilled till date. He was hoping that his followers would get his mission fulfilled but people like Amit Shah openly dared to malign the image of great patriot Shyama Parsad Mukherjee who sacrificed his life to strengthen state and centre relation. But his supreme sacrificed has been mocked by Amit Shah". It demanded an apology from Amit Shah. "Amit Shah should apologize to the nation for distorting facts of history" and "resign immediately from the post of president…" The JKYSAC was reacting to the Amit Shah's April 3 Bangaluru speech. All this shows that resentment among the people of Jammu region is brewing and their anger is directed towards the BJP and BJP alone. The BJP leadership needs to understand the causes which have aggravated the situation for it in Jammu region. To ignore the unfolding developments in Jammu region would be only to ensure its political demise in Jammu and Kashmir and face serious reverses in the rest of the country where the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already started declining. |
