Leaders indulge in self praise, talk about their achievements, forget founders | Bickering mars BJP's foundation day function in Kashmir | | Fazal Khan Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 7: Function organized by the Kashmir unit of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) to commemorate the foundation day of the party here turned into a "comedy show" as organizers tried to score points over each other by claiming they are the real representatives of the BJP in Kashmir. Sources told Early Times a few BJP leaders from Kashmir had assembled in a local hotel here to discuss the achievements of the party and observe BJP's foundation day on Monday. Participants, sources said, forgot the real motive of the meeting and started boasting their individual achievements. "A few people who have been associated with the BJP in Kashmir for the past many years tried to drive home a point that they have been associated with the party in Kashmir during very difficult times and party remained alive in Kashmir due to their efforts," sources said. They said, seniors were however, confronted by the new comers who claimed that they infused new blood into the party and ensured that party's message reaches out to the people. "BJP leaders indulging in self praise and keeping their speeches confined to their personal achievements made the audience believe that function has been organized to discuss their personal achievements and their own land marks," said a source. He said none of the leaders spoke about how the party was founded and its mission. "Nor did any of the leaders highlight the role of its founders, including Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. There was no mention about how party wants to reach out to the people and build its base in Kashmir," the source added. They said function due to the bickering among the organizers turned into a "comedy show" as the people who were present on the stage tried to prove that they are ones who are the real founders of BJP. He said the tall claims of BJP enrolling five lakh members across the Valley were exposed during the meeting as only a handful of persons attended the foundation day ceremony. "Soon after the results of the assembly polls were declared in Jammu and Kashmir and BJP failed to open its account in the Valley, the BJP leaders created hype about launching a membership drive in Kashmir and claimed five lakh people have joined the party," said a BJP leader. He said if five lakh people have joined the party during the past few months, then why didn't they attend the foundation day function? "Function should have been organized in a open ground not inside a hotel room," he added. "It's unfortunate that high command is not paying any attention towards the party affairs in Kashmir and here self styled leaders have hijacked the entire agenda of the BJP," the leader added. He said a few seasoned persons who are associated with BJP in Kashmir have taken up the matter with the party high command and have expressed concern over the way things are shaping up in Kashmir. "BJP's foundation day is a big occasion and this should have been used to highlight the achievements of the party and its future plans. Unfortunately a few people messed it up," he added. One of the BJP leaders, who was one among the organizers said, "Some people within the Kashmir unit are not happy with new faces joining the party and they organizing pro-active programs. These people want to confine BJP to a few people and want new comers to follow their diktats." |
