Vikramadatya, Ajat Shatru to become MLCs | Upper House to get royal touch | | Arun Singh
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 7: For the first time in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir, the State Legislative Council is likely to get two members from state's royal family. Vikramadatya Singh and Ajat Shatru Singh, sons of former Sadr-e-Riyasat and Member of Parliament Dr Karan Singh are all set to be MLCs. Sources told Early Times that People Democratic Party nominated Yuvraj Vikramadiay Singh as Member of Legislative Council today whereas Bharatiya Janta Party has almost cleared the name of Ajat Shatru Singh to the Upper House. "It will be for the first time in JK's political history that Legislative Council would have two brothers from royal Dogra family as MLCs. Although, it will be the maiden entry of Yuvraj Vikramadiay Singh into state legislature but Ajat Shatru Singh has long experience of state polity. Ajat Shatru started his political career from National Conference; he successfully contested the Assembly elections from Nagrota constituency in 1996 and was inducted as Tourism Minister in the Farooq Abdullah cabinet but he could not make it to Legislative Assembly in 2002 and 2008, and was made a member of the State Legislative Council by the NC. Later he joined BJP last year and his elder brother Vikramadatiya Singh made his debut by joining PDP," they said. |
