Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 7: Bitter factionalism in State unit of Congress is likely to hit hard the party membership drive in Jammu and Kashmir as Azad loyalists have come openly against the newly appointed PCC president.
The rebels seem determined to oppose actions of the PCC president and the vice-president.
According to the sources, a secret meeting of these rebels was held at the residence of one of the senior leaders of this camp and close aide of Ghulam Nabi Azad for chalking out a strategy against the PCC chief. Former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand was also present in the meeting, which was attended by all the senior leaders of Azad camp, sources added.
During the meeting, sources said, Azad loyalists resolved to forget their internal differences and fight collectively for their political survival in the interest of party as well as their own. They also decided to approach the party high command for apprising it about the alleged sidelining of senior leaders but accommodating blue eyed novice faces in PCC.
While all participants of the meet gave vent to their feelings, sources said Tara Chand was most vociferous in criticizing the PCC president.
The former Dy CM criticized him and accused him of playing in the hands of his adversaries. Tara Chand it may be mentioned had tried his level best for a patch up between him and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
At the same time, former ministers Gulchain Singh Charak and Abdul Ghani Vakil publically raised banner of revolt against him r during the party workers' convention at Bishnah and demanded a review of the PCC.
Amidst voices of resentment and open revolt, the PCC formally launched party membership drive, which is likely to be severely affected because of the ongoing war of bitter factionalism within Congress as the rebel camp has decided not to be part of the drive.
