Early Times Report Jammu, June 13: As many as 70 candidates are in fray for the much awaited elections to the District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC) scheduled for July 8 here. Yesterday was the last date for filing the nominations and in all, 70 candidates from around 11 constituencies are in fray for the DGPC polls, an official here today said. He said the scrutiny of the documents will be done on June 16 to ascertain eligibility of the contesting candidates, adding, The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the prestigious polls which are being held after a decade. An official said around 9,000 voters are expected to cast their votes, adding that all security measures will be put in place during the process. Constituencies comprising Gadi Garh, Digana, Bishnah, R S Pura, Jammu West, Jammu East, Akhnoor, Nanak Nagar and other areas will undergo polling, he said and added, The elections, which were already due and got delayed in view of some dispute followed by a stay order issued by the Court, will surely be held in a conducive and cordial atmosphere. The polling process will begin at 0800 hrs and conclude at 1600 hrs. The results would be declared on the same day, he maintained. He however, hoped that the recent violence in Jammu in which a Sikh youth was killed, will not affect the elections. |
