Omar considers BJP as untouchable for PDP, but not for himself | People remember about his failures as CM | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 13: National Conference (NC) working President, Omar Abdullah these days is busy in projecting himself as pro-Kashmiri and for this the former chief minister has launched a diatribe against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) government in the state. Omar has accused chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed of taking dictation from Nagpur since the headquarters of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are located there. He said that Mufti acts after receiving orders from Prime Minister, Narinder Modi and as such has lost his credibility. The former chief minister seems to be guided by the dictum that criticism should be carried out for the sake of criticism. He has conveniently forgotten that he was a junior minister in the BJP governments at the centre not long ago. He worked under the BJP bosses and that time the BJP leaders were not 'untouchables' for Omar and his party. The people of Kashmir are fully aware about the failures of Omar when he was the chief minister for six years. He cannot wish away the allegations leveled by people against him and his party. The former chief minister failed to act even against a single police officer following the killing of 120 persons mostly youth in the summer agitation in Kashmir in 2010. Omar wants to be in news and for this he has been carrying out a tirade against the PDP-BJP government. He failed to provide succour to the people following the devastating flood of September 2014. Mere preparation and submission of the proposed package for flood affected people was not enough. The NC-Congress government led by Omar failed to pursue the proposal and as such the people were deprived of adequate compensation. The people at helm at that time seemed to be non-serious in getting the package approved from the central government. Their failure to do the job cost the flood affected people very badly and they continue to suffer even today. In the press conference that he addressed few days back, the former chief minister acknowledged the fact that Mufti did a great job as chief minister of the state during 2002-2005. He said that Mufti has failed to live to his magic and as such is not in a position to deliver on ground with respect to governance in the state. Differences among PDP-BJP, the coalition in the state have given fresh lease of life to National Conference and more so to its working president. One wonders if the 'tricky' issues are solved by PDP and BJP then what would be the response of Omar and his party. Omar may also face a litmus test if no controversial issue comes up in the PDP and BJP government. Pertinently, allegations have been leveled against Omar by his fellow party men that he lost connect with the grass root workers. Accusations have also come to fore that NC working president humiliates and insults the ground workers of the party as and when they come to meet him either in the summer capital or winter capital. |
