For want of postings, many police officers sit idle | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 13: In the absence of postings for them, at least half a dozen senior police officers are sitting idle at police headquarters for the past some time. Political interference is said to be the reason behind the delay in their postings. They continue to sit idle despite the fact there are vacancies for them. Their job nowadays is limited only to marking attendance at police headquarters. Since there has been no consensus at the political level to order their postings, the vacant posts are held by some officers as additional charge. According to sources, the posts of ADGP CID, Home Guards and Railways are lying vacant. An IGP has been given the additional charge of home guards. At present, two ADGP rank officers - S K Misra and Naveen Aggarwal - are sitting idle at police headquarters since May last year, the sources added. Some posts of IGP are also lying vacant but the department has not bothered to post L D Mohanty against one of them. He is at present attached with police headquarters. While the state cabinet has met several times, the government preferred not to order their postings. Even the post of DIG (Jammu range) is also lying vacant but the government has not filled the vacancy despite the fact that DIG Viplav Kumar Choudhary is sitting idle at police headquarters. The DIG (traffic) is holding its additional charge. IPS officers - Vinod Kumar and Sri Ram Dinkar - are also attached with police headquarters but the government is not posting them too even as the posts of SSP, Jammu, and SP (south) are held by officers as additional charge. Sources said the government was not filling the vacancies because it wanted to post its own men against them. |
