If Ikhwaan revival worries Omar, 2010 killings irk people | Pot calling kettle black | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 13: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Saturday accused the Defence Minister of getting people killed through Ikhwaan. After witnessing the performance of Omar for six years, a question haunts the commoner. "How would Omar react if the defence minister had made such a statement during his regime?" Omar watched the killings of 130 youth mostly school going children in 2010. He started talking and condemning the forces who were under his control in his capacity as Home Minister of the state when the situation had gone out of hands. Mar could have prevented the 2010 agitation had he acted on time and punished the persons responsible for the very first killing. The people of the state, especially in the Valley believe that Omar has always behaved as the proverbial "good boy' during his six year rule. He promised a lot but could not deliver. He promised repeal of AFSPA but at one point of time said it was needed. He promised jobs but admitted that jobs for all was an impossible task. The defence minister talked about revival of Ikhwaan and "killing militants through militants.'" In Omar's regime , his father and former Chief Minister issued a series of controversial and derogatory statements. He said "Kashmir ko goli maro.' He also said that all Kashmiris were thievies. Omar did not react. Omar expressed worry over the present Sopore situation. "People are getting killed there on regular basis," he said. Yes, killings have taken place in Sopore but this has been happening in Kashmir for quite some time now. If NC resented Ikhwaan, it created the dreaded special operations group (SOG). The SOG has been the most ruthless force believe the rights defenders. And Omar must know that the process of getting the Bollywood actors here was started by his father during his 1996-2002 tenure. At times he would dance to Bollywood tunes along with the actors. |
