Weather turns pleasant after rain, strong winds in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 13: Weather turned pleasant after rain and strong winds last evening in this summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, where major parts elsewhere in the valley experienced light to moderate rain. The mercury was almost normal after remaining below normal for the past about a week due to rain and cloudy weather conditions in the valley. However, a Met Department spokesman said here this afternoon that there could be scattered rain or thundershowers in the state during the next 24 hours. But, he said, the weather will remain mainly dry and there is chance of fairly wide spread rain during the subsequent two days.For the first time after about a week, the mercury was near normal in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, where rain and winds were experienced last night. However, the minimum temperature was above normal though the maximum temperature yesterday was normal in the valley.People woke up to a pleasant morning in the summer capital though the minimum temperature witnessed two degree increase. Against yesterdays 13.5 degree minimum temperature, it was 15.5 degree, 1. 5 degree above normal in the city, where reconstruction and renovation of houses and shops, damaged in September last year devastating flood, was going on.However, he said the mercury will drop again in the city during the next 24 hours when there is possibility of rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 21 degree an 11 degree respectively, he added.World famous health resort of Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine, where the annual yatra will commence from July 2, recorded 8 degree minimum temperature, which is being considered normal during this period of the season. However, at famed ski resort of Gulmarg the minimum temperature remained half a notch below normal though it was up by half a degree against yesterday after 9.6 mm rainfall till 0830 hrs. Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, Kokernag and Kupwara also recorded half to two degree below normal minimum temperature.At Leh the minimum temperature was eight degree against yesterday 7. 2 degree while at border town of Kargil it was 8.2 degree against nine degree recorded yesterday. He said the sky would be generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 24 degree and 10 degree at Leh during the next 24 hours. There will be some relief for the people at Jammu where light rain or thundershowers are expected and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 35 degree and 23 degree respectively. |
