Grant minority status to Sikhs in J&K: DSGMC

JAMMU, June 13: President Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and Delhi State chief of Akali Dal Badal, Manjit Singh has demanded that Sikhs be granted minority status in the J&K state.
Talking to media persons here today, Manjit Singh said that Sikhs have been accorded the minority status in the whole country but only in J&K State they have not been granted the similar status. He strongly demanded minority status for Sikhs in the State and asked for constitution of Minority Commission in the State on the pattern of National Minority Commission. He alleged that Sikh minority is being provided step motherly treatment in J&K.
The Akali leader who was here today, visited Chohala village in R S Pura, the house of deceased youth killed in police firing few days back and handed over cheque of Rs 5 lakhs to the family of deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured persons on behalf of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. He castigated J&K Govt for letting lose reign of terror on Sikhs. He expressed deep shock and grief the way young man Jasjeet Singh was killed in firing by police. Singh alleged that instead of protecting minorities, the Government was adopting repressive measures to crush the minorities. He condemned the State Government and demanded transfer of all the top police officials from the region and inquiry from a sitting High Court judge into the whole incident.
Singh also expressed gratitude to the Mahant Manjit Singh ji for his dedication and concern towards the well being of the Sikh community in J&K. He assured full support and cooperation to the Sikh community in J&K from Akali Dal Badal.
Former MLA Harmeet Singh Khalsa and former SGPB chairman Sudershan Singh Wazir also spoke on the occasion.
