Jammu, June 13: A Jammu-based family, including a septuagenarian and his wife, was assaulted here at Janipur by their son's inlaws, complaint of which has been lodged with the concerned police station. The body of their son has been recovered from Punjab's Phagwara area under mysterious circumstances. Seeking help from print as well as electronic media, septuagenarian Rattan Lal, son of Chuni Lal Mahajan, alleged that 14 years back, his son Jatinder Gupta was married in Jallandhar in Punjab to Meenakshi Gupta, daughter of Harsh Kumar. After sometime his son settled at Phagwara, he added. Rattan said that in 2014, his son telephoned him and told him that he wanted to sell all his assets at Phagwara and come back to Jammu to his parents. "Knowing this, I immediately sent my wife and daughter to Phagwara to know why he wants to sell his properties all of a sudden. As my daughter and wife told, he was very depressed due to some problem he was reluctant to share with", said Rattan Lal. "Later on, Jatinder sent his daughter with his sister and mother to Jammu and asked for her admission in a private school at Janipura, saying, he will come to Jammu after one week but after one week he took his sister back to Punjab as he was pressurized by his in-laws and wife in Punjab", Rattan Lal added. He said Jatinder planned to come back to Jammu on March 31 but on March 20, his body was recovered under mysterious circumstances from Phagwara. Following this, my daughter-in-law Meenakshi along with her daughter Tamanna Gupta came to Jammu at our residence here at Janipura and wished to stay there. "I even managed admission of my grand-daughter in a private school here, he said. According to him, he along with his wife were assaulted by the parents of his daughter-in-law, brother Sunny, his wife Priya, sister Bindiya and other relatives at their residence at Janipura. "I have lodged a complaint against the in-laws of my son with Janipur Police Station. We are living under constant fear of being attacked again", said Rattan Lal. He has appealed police to provide him and his family a security cover and probe the circumstances that lead to death of his son at Phagwara. |
