Nonpayment of dues: Frustrated PWD daily wager woman makes abortive life bid | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, June 13: Alleging non release of pending dues for the last eighteen months, a frustrated woman daily wages worker engaged with Public Works Department (PWD) Udhampur today made a bid to commit suicide by cutting her nerve outside the PWD office today. According to reports a woman casual labouer of Public Works department Udhampur , identified namely as Zarifa Begum sitting on dharna for last 28 days with other colleagues in support of early release of pending wages today in a fit of rage cut her nerve outside office as she alongwith others were denied of wages from officer concerned. "She was imitatively shifted to hospital where her condition is stated to be out of danger, sources said. Talking to media persons, the hospitalized lady alleged that most of the daily wagers working in the department from more than a decade yet have not been paid from last 15 to 20 months due to which they are facing starvation like situation. She added that due to callous approach of concerned officials and government towards daily wagers forcing her to take such an extreme step. Pertinent to mention that the workers engaged after 1994, under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir PWD Casual Labourers Union Udhampur unit are on indefinite strike from last 18 days in support of their demand of release of pending wages and their regularization. Another Kripal Singh a casual labourer said that need-based workers have been working like regularized workers for the department, but officials don't bother to solve their problems. "In the absence of wages these poor labourers are facing many difficulties in meeting their daily expenses, he added. He and others speakers alleged that the new coalition Government formed only high power committee for the budget but there are no provisions for our welfare and neither any steps are taken in order to meet our interests. |
