| 2 years on, GMC Administration fails to install two ACs for networking server room | | Equipments worth Rs 80 lakhs at risk | | Arun Singh

Jammu, June 14: Blame it on the criminal neglect on the part of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) administration that it has been more than two years of setting up of networking server room to connect entire hospital with high speed network facility at cost of approximately Rs 80 lakhs but the administration has failed to install two Air Conditioners mandatory for maintaining temperature so that smooth functioning of server room can be ensured.
Sources told Early Times that the project was given to National Knowledge Network which has expertise in multi-gigabite network, with a purpose to provide a unified high speed network, backbone for educational institutions in India.
"The networking was laid down by National Knowledge Network (NKN) in collaboration with National Informatics Center (NIC) to connect entire hospital with high speed internet facility by laying down a separate Optical Fiber line," they said.
They further maintained that the despite knowing the significance of the project in respect of its connectivity with 360 various institutions across the county including health as well as others to get information on latest health technology and to keep themselves updated with new studies in health sector and can help the doctors in their research studies.
"The important of part of this network facility is that all premier Hospitals like AIIMS, PGI Chandigarh etc in the country are connected with it and any help can be sought online from these hospitals through webcam and by using Skype application," they informed further adding that Doctors can see seminars being held at any place in the world and take benefits of it. They can also watch live surgeries, can seek information on medicines.
They further informed that optical fiber lines has been laid down in entire hospital to give connection in every department, earlier the connections were given in the rooms of all Heads of Department, later connections were extended to all consultants as well. National Knowledge Network also provided free high speed data for ten years, they added.
"After the completion of the project, the team National Knowledge Network had recommended four Air Conditioners for maintaining temperature and smooth functioning of server room which included three servers, routers etc but not to talk of four ACs, GMC administration even has not sanctioned at least two ACs till date which was minimum necessity," they further alleged that a number request letters were sent to Principal GMC for early sanction of the two ACs but every the requests have been turned down due to unknown reasons.
When contacted Principal GMC&H Dr Ghanshayam Dev Gupta, in this regard, assured of the necessary steps for the betterment of the server room and said "I would personally visit the server room tomorrow and take the cognizance of the matter and all requisite measures will be taken for enhancing the efficiency of the server room. |
