SRINAGAR, June 14: Having in the mind that they will be wiped out in the assembly elections, the previous National Conference-Congress government emptied the state coffers by re-employing the blue eyed persons, on whose salary crores of rupees have been spent so far.
Sources told Early Times that the previous government spent almost seven crore rupees on the salary and on the other expenditures of the persons who were re-employed, leading the state to the economic bankruptcy.
"These re-employed persons got lakhs of rupees in terms of salaries and other perks during the previous regime. The previous government wasted the precious money which otherwise could have been used for the development of the state. There was lack of accountability and same took toll on the overall economic health of the state," said sources.
Sources said that not to talk of their salaries only, these re-employed persons were paid the telephone bills, travel allowances and some of them even got loan from the banks. In this way the previous government overburdened the state exchequer, said sources.
Sources said that it is the previous government which re-engaged Mushtaq Ahmad Peer, responsible for the infamous BOPEE scandal, 2012. Mushtaq Ahmad Peer was appointed as the consultant, whose salary was fixed at Rs. 80,000 per month, said the sources.
Sources said that the previous regime re-employed Mushtaq Peer despite having the knowledge about the wrong doings which he had committed previously. But Omar led government overlooked all these realities and appointed him as the consultant for filling of the non-gazetted employees on the fast track basis.
During the previous government, as learnt from the sources, the ministers got a free hand to re-employ the persons of their choice, including the former staff members and Ex-Engineers. The expenditures on these re- employed persons were to the tune of Rs. 6, 80, 00,000 (six crore eighty lakh rupees), said the sources.
Sources said that the re-employment was made in the offices of the ministers besides the different departments, without thinking about its fall out on the state economy. They said that departments like Health department, Department of Agriculture, besides in the civil administration, where the re-employment of these officers, and other employees was made.
Sources said that the present government is committed to cancel all re-employment orders for which the process has already begun.
"Mufti government is giving serious thoughts to this problem. The new government has cancelled almost all such orders with an intention to improve the economy of the state," said the sources.
