Illegal constructions in full swing on forest land in Jammu | Forest Minister's 'resolve' proves no deterrence for land mafia | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 14: PDP-BJP alliance government's Forest Minister Bali Bhagat created a furore few days back stating that forest land state-wide is presently being illegally occupied by encroachers who included top politicians of J&K. The political punch came when he said that while the previous government was non serious in retrieving land from encroachers, present government is determined to serve notices to all, including politicians like Dr Farooq Abdullah, a couple of senior leaders of his party besides some stalwarts from the Congress party. Over a week on after he raised this controversy, nothing remains unchanged on the ground as constructions are going on unabatedly in all the areas he named in Jammu. Nor has any action been taken against the conniving officials in departments like Municipality, JDA, Revenue and even Police with whose collusion this is happening on ground level be it individual bungalows or multi-storey apartments. Sources confirmed not just minor scale constructions but large scale constructions over illegally grabbed or encroached land in areas like Bhatindi, Sunjwan, Chowaadi , Bahu Rakh are in full swing and Forest Minister's resolve has not at all proved deterrence to those involved nor to those with whose consent or approval from various departments they get emboldened. "Jis Din Farooq Abdullah Ka Ghar Todaingay Us Din Aapkay Ghar Ko Bhi Haath Lagaingay…", this is the misleading assurance that comes from land mafia to common people as buyers even after what the Forest minister has indicated, said the sources. The land, pertinent to say, is being sold just on one affidavit in these areas which is actually forest land. There is no other formality which is required to be done normally in such deals in other areas, said the sources while explaining the modus operandi of land mafia and those in construction business. Sources said things have turned chaotic and muddled is the role of some officials from concerned agencies who conveniently and strategically allow land deals to happen and constructions to take off without formal permissions. However, some potential buyers have turned shaky after Forest Minister's recent utterances but this is being played down by those in 'business' by the re assurance that government will do nothing as they won't dare touching top politicians from almost all parties and regions across the state who have built palatial houses on forest land in Jammu, sources said. Over 90 percent constructions in these areas are going on in an illegal manner as NOCs remain elusive contrary to mandatory in other areas. Sources also said that while the son of a senior most NC leader, former minister has some construction business going in this area , son of one senior Congress leader of Jammu too has larger stakes in similar business on the forest land. What however appears to be superficial approach of the PDP-BJP government and the Forest Minister in particular is that no circular nor any order has as yet come into force to stop such constructions, leave alone demolishing bungalows of top politicians. |
