Fearing bad weather, Amarnath pilgrims return home | Yatra resumes from Baltal, Pahalgam base camps after daylong suspension | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 11: Most of the Amarnath pilgrims are retuning home without visiting the tourist places fearing bad weather. The yatra was suspended yesterday due to bad weather. However, it was resumed today. According to official sources Yatris were allowed to move towards Holy Cave from both Pahalgam and Baltal bases since early morning after it was felt that weather is improving and shall remain pleasant throughout the day today. Yatra was stopped yesterday after both tracks became slippery due to overnight rains across Kashmir and arround 3,000 pilgrims, who had left Baltal base camp early yesterday morning were stopped at Brarimarg spot and though were later allowed to proceed towards the Holy cave in the afternoon after improvement in the weather was felt by authorities. However rest of Yatris scheduled to pay obeisance at cave were stopped from both ends. Pertinently at a time when according to official accounts 1, 31, 706 Yatris paid obeisance at Cave, most of Yatris according to tourist players of Kashmir return to their destinations immediately after visiting Holy cave and does not visit other tourist destinations of Kashmir as would happen previously. Tourist players while talking to early times said that Yatris still feel Kashmir is not safe to move after floods of September 2014 send a wrong message among tourists across the globe and that only is the reason that tourists pay obeisance at Cave and return to their homes without visiting other tourist destinations of Kashmir. " Dal lake area would remain crowded with Yatris who after visiting Amarnath Gufa would visit Dal and other destinations of Kashmir, but this year you can see Houseboats are vacant as Yatris already returned to their Homes after visiting gufa and result is thousands of people associated with tourism here are sitting idle."Said Muhammd Sultan one Houseboat owner According to one boatman, Muhammad Akram, he like his colleagues crave to see rush of tourists arround Dal Lake area once again which he would see before floods of September 2014, and earn a good chunk of money during this season to meet economic expense of his throughout the year. Tourist players allege that government is spending crores of Rupees annually for Tourism Promotion in Jammu and Kashmir without any Proper Procedure and such a haphazard and untimely move is yet to prove fruitful for tourism industry of Kashmir. Pertinently with improvement in the weather today, 2,900 pilgrims, including 500 women, left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp early this morning till 0700 hrs for their next halting station Chandanwari which is connected by a road and also pilgrims, who had night halt at different halting stations on the traditional route were also allowed to start their journey towards the Holy cave. Similarly, around 5,000 yatris, including 1,250 women and 43 children besides 11 sadhus as well also left Baltal base camp for the holy Cave shrine and majority of yatris were expected to safely reach to destination after covering an area of 16-km-long track. |
