Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 11: Defaulter Pharmaceutical trader and a controversial doctor, who are trusted lieutenants of Health Minister, and are considered to be his 'chamchas' have assumed the role of "chief escorts" of Chaudary Lal Singh as they accompany him while carrying out nocturnal raids in the hospitals and health centers especially in Jammu region.
Reliable Sources in Health Department disclosed to Early Times the Health Minister visited four hospitals at Vijaypur, Basohli, Ramgarh and Samba, on intervening night of 10th and 11th July. "Unlike officers of Health department, two trusted chamchas of the Minister including defaulter pharmaceutical trader Rajinder, who has been running a medical shop at Sarwal Hospital and another Dr Sandeep Singh were accompanying him", sources said.
The pharmaceutical trader Rajinder Gupta, according to sources, owes lakhs of rupees to Health Department. Despite department sending numerous reminders to Gupta, he has not paid a single penny and tops the list of defaulters. The said influential individual and close aide of Lal Singh reportedly is running his shop at Sarwal hospital for the past many years leaves no opportunity to appease the Health Minister so that the money which he owes to the department is waived off. Meanwhile Dr Sandeep Singh, according to the sources, has been in the good books of Minister for a long time and recently the Health Minister rewarded him by appointing him as Registrar of J&K Paramedical Council/ Nursing Council. He too was often accompanying the Minister during his visit to these hospitals.
Pertinently, Dr Sandeep Singh along with his supporters had attacked the news paper offices in Jammu city on August 7 in 2007 for reporting his so called Boss’ who had to face brickbats from protesters at Bilawar for abusing them. Sources alleged that both persons were often seen escorting ‘Minister’ during his each visit and are described as his 'hench men' who hover around him to get maximum benefits.
"How a doctor and pharmaceutical trader can accompnay minister during his surprise visits and inspect the working of staff? is a million dollora question. It seems the Health Minister himself wants his coterie around so to get praise for him and help him (the Minister) to establish his writ.
