Langars resume functioning at Baltal on assurance of DGP, CEO | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 11: The Lager Sevadars resumed their functioning on the assurance of police and Shrine Board authorities that there will be no interference in their functioning in future. Expressing their regrets over the yesterday's episode at Baltal both Shrine Board CEO and Director General Police who reached base camp early this morning assured the sevadars of langer that such things will not occur in future. They also assured them full cooperation on the part of the authorities in running the langers. On the assurance of DGP and Shrine Board CEO the Sevadars call offstrike and the functioning of free langers was resumed. The Sevadars while expressing their satisfaction over the role of DGP and CEO SASB said that they have no grievances against the administration now as both the officers said that action will be taken against the erring officials trying to create hurdles in the functioning of langers and vitiate the peaceful atmosphere. It may be recalled that the langer people had gone on strike yesterday after the police and local administration in front of Camp director SASB dismantled various camps of langer people at Baltal saying that they have been installed without proper permission. This evoked a strong protest among the langer people who resorted to strike and held a massive demonstration at Baltal yesterday. They warned that they will only resume the functioning and run free langers after Governor or DGP or CEO Shrine Board visits the area to ascertain the situation and give assurance to them. The langer people accused the administration of harassing them and yatris to discourage the yatra. Warning that the same would not be tolerated the Langer people said that they will close all the langers till they get an assurance from higher ups in SASB or the State Government. However the situation was saved from taking an ugly turn after the DGP and CEO visited the Baltal this morning to pacify the situation and pursue the langer people to resume the normal work. Both the officers also stressed that creation of congenial atmosphere was very much needed for smooth conduct of two month long Amarnath yatra. Meanwhile the yatra which was stopped due to heavy rains and slippery tracks at twin base camps ofNunwan-Pahalgam and Baltal was resumed today with over 10,000 pilgrims leaving from Nunwan base camp and over 7000 from Baltal for holy cave. |
