Valmiki Samaj calls on HRC, raises demands of PRC | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 14: Valmiki Samaj residing in Jammu has called on Human Right Commission (HRC) and raised the demand of Permanent Residence Certificates (PRC) and due share in the development. As per press release, a high powered delegation of Valmiki Mohalla Trust (VMT) led by its president Gharu Bhatti met several union commissions including Human Right and Safai Karamchari Commission. The whole tour was organized by JK Student Center, an NGO working for unprivileged classes of society. The delegation apprised central commissions that Valmiki population living in Jammu is facing number of problems due to issuance of PRC, which is mandatory for government jobs and higher education. They said that from last four decades the members of this Samaj are forced to live in one marla house , in absence of non availability of land to non state subject. They said that in year 1957, Jammu and Kashmir government brought families of Valmiki Samaj to state, when Safai Karmcharis of J&K went on indefinite strike. They also said the since then no government look after the grievances of Valmiki Samaj. They appealed Human Right commission to put pressure on international bodies to include Valmiki Samaj on PRC. They also criticized the government for Article 35B of Civil Service Regulation Act J&K according to which members of Valmiki Samaj only eligible for doing work as Safai Karamcharis in state. The delegation also met battery of prominent lawyers, journalists, Professors and other prominent persons of the country. Other members who part of delegation were Joginder Singh, Mangt Ram Matto, Rajesh Kumar and Eklavya. |
