Technician serving as radiologist in Doda | Kare najar badaste gilkar! | | Bijay Charak ET Report Jammu, July 14: A technician has been serving as a radiologist for many years in a Doda hospital, belying claims of Health Minister Choudhary Lal Singh about revolutionizing health institutions in far-flung areas of the state. A radiologist is a specialist medical doctor who performs and interprets diagnostic imaging tests like X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan and MRI. In district hospital Doda and sub district hospital Bhaderwah, two sanctioned posts of senior and junior radiologist are vacant for years. Hence, in the absence of a specialist in the Doda hospital, a technician has been working as a radiologist. Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Doda, said he had visited district hospital for X-ray of his fractured leg. "The technician conducted the test and mentioned in the report that I had a single fracture. But when the pain didn't subside, I visited a private clinic where the X-ray showed multi fracture. I was shocked. Just imagine how they are playing with the lives of people," he said. The Doda hospital has facilities like CT scan but the machines remained unutilized in the absence of a radiologist. People from far-flung areas cover more than 200 kilometer to reach Jammu Medical College and Hospital. Chief Medical Officer Doda, Dr. Kulbushan Singh told Early Times that time and again he had written to higher authorities to fill up the vacant posts but to no avail. |
