Despite agreement with workers, gun factory owners' stick to their guns | Labour Department playing biased role | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 14: It has been more than a month since an agreement was reached between gun factory owners and workers. But the owners are yet to implement it because of their alleged collusion with some officials of the Labour Department. Sources told Early Times that the influential gun factory owners have not implemented the agreement in letter and spirit. "The Labour Department has always been biased against the workers since the beginning of the latter's agitation. They never took any action against the gun factory owners who had been allegedly committing atrocities on the workers by depriving them of their legitimate rights," sources said. They said a deputation of gun factory workers had called on Assistant Labour Commissioner Jammu on July 11 at his office to register their protest against non-implementation of the agreement. "On hearing the workers, the Assistant Labour Commissioner directed the Labour Officer Shiv Kumar to visit the factories personally on July 14 to get the attendance card issued. The official did not however visit the factories which created doubts about the role of the Labour Department," said sources. Moreover, defying the agreement blatantly, some gun factory owners have been allegedly taking the signatures of their workers on blank affidavits and lure them to work on the previous salaries. "At least two factory owners-Standard Gun Works and Khajuria Gun Works-have managed to take signatures of many of their employees on blank affidavits," sources added. No senior official of the Labour Department was available for comment. |
