Early Times Report
Jammu, July 14: Authorities have chosen to turn nelson's eye to the continuing encroachments on land of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) from Sainik Colony to Narwal Jammu by some influential businessmen.
Reliable Sources informed that Early Times that many a politically affluent businessmen and land grabbers have usurped the NHAI land and they are allegedly in league with the authorities.
It is pertinent to mention here that numbers of showrooms and others multi storey buildings have come up along the national highway and several of them have encroached the land belonging to the NHAI.
Seeking anonymity, official sources in the NHAI said that NHAI officials had received complaints many times by locals but owing to political involvement, no action could be taken against these businessmen and the authority ignored its own rules and regulations and safely turned blind eye to the entire matter .
He informed that, few month ago, notices were issued to some business houses that had constructed huge buildings along the highway, but they managed to get the issues shelved and no follow up action was initiated.
He alleged that some officials of enforcing agencies including JMC and NHAI were also involved and were encouraging these powerful businessmen to encroach NHAI land.
When contacted, Project Director of NHAI, Jammu, RP Singh said that the action has been delayed against these establishments due to the visit of the union Minister to Jammu and Kashmir and now the action shall be taken within few days. On being asked if political involvement was affecting action against them, he replied that laws are equal for everyone and law shall take its own course.
