Survival of BJP at stake: ACC | | | Early Times Report
Jammu. July 14: As part of its mass awakening campaign on the issue of AIIMS, the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC), which has been spearheading the movement for the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu since May 21, today addressed a meeting of civil society members at Babliana near Digiana. The meeting was sponsored by residents of Babliana. Hundreds of people from all walks of life participated in the meeting and offered their full support to the ACC for protecting and advancing further the cause of the ignored Jammu region. Addressing the meeting, ACC chairman and president of JKHCBA, Jammu, Abhinav Sharma, said the very survival of the BJP in Jammu region is at stake. "If the BJP is to remain somewhat relevant in Jammu region because of which it is enjoying political power in the state and survive, it has no option but to act on its June 18 written commitment that it would obtain from the Government of India an order regarding the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu latest by July 20," he said, adding that the BJP, which has already become unpopular by entering into an alliance with the pro-self-rule and anti-Jammu PDP, cannot afford to go back on its written commitment. Its fate in Jammu region would be no different from that of the Congress and the NC, which suffered massive defeats in the region because these two parties had also ditched the people and followed Kashmir-centric policies in a most brazen manner. The BJP must appreciate the ACC which withdrew the 72-hour-long bandh call and suspended its chain hunger strike on June 18 following its written assurance, he further said, and added that it believes in constitutional method of agitation. At the same time, he warned the authorities in the state and at the centre that the ACC will not hesitate to take to some radical means in case the BJP failed to deliver the promise within the stipulated period. The ACC enjoys popular support in Jammu region and it is committed to achieving its stated goal, he said, adding that it will not let down the people. |
