Police probe circulation of Hizb video
7/15/2015 12:12:16 AM
Srinagar, July 14 : A day after a video of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists surfaced in the Kashmir Valley, police have launched a probe to trace its origin and are planning to approach the court for seeking removal of the pages from social networking sites.
Police said the 80-second video initially surfaced on messaging application 'Whatsapp' after which it was uploaded on social networking sites.
The video shows young gun-toting militants in battle fatigues, including Burhan Wani of Tral, who has emerged as a 'poster-boy' of militancy in the state, undergoing combat training and joking with each other.
Young militants like 19-year-old Burhan, who are claimed to have recruited several people, including some educated young men, into the outfit, pose a fresh challenge to the security forces given their devil-may-care attitude reflected in first uploading of their photographs and then the video.
Security agencies estimate over 50 boys, mainly from south Kashmir, have joined militant ranks since January this year.
It is rare for underground militants to brazenly upload their photos and videos for public viewing for fear of being tracked down by the security forces.
The video which shows 11 militants roaming in the orchards of Yaripora, a place located between Shopian and Kulgam in south Kashmir, and undergoing training was described by the law enforcement agencies as "psychological warfare" to demoralise the security forces.
Armed with a court order, the police intends to approach the social networking sites asking them to provide details of the Internet Protocol addresses from where the photos and video were uplinked.
