Srinagar, Aug 8: Students 0f an engineering college in north Kashmir are up in arms against its authorities, accusing them of violating the fee structure set up by the Union government. A group of B.Tech students from SSM college of Engineering, Pattan, said as per the order issued by the Union Ministry of Technical Education, the fee structure of students who have joined their respective courses via lateral entry route shall be same as of the CET students, which is Rs 37, 800. But the college, students said, charged them Rs 75,000. They said the SSM College had published a notification in local newspapers on 26-06-2015, announcing that the tuition fee would be Rs 37,800 for the students admitted under lateral entry category after 6-05-2014. "As the order was passed in May, we paid Rs 75000 in June. Our repeated pleas to refund the outstanding amount have been ignored," the students said. They said the Assistant Registrar of the Kashmir University too wrote to the Principal SSM College that the fee of students admitted via lateral entry was Rs 37,800. "Unfortunately, the order issued by the college has not been implemented and the college authorities are categorically refusing to pay us back our the money which we had paid to the college as extra fee," the students said. Meanwhile, when contacted the Deputy Registrar, Academics, of SSM College Syed Masood Qadri told Early Times that the fee is being charged from the students as per the government order which is in vogue. "We are charging students as per the government norms. There is not even a single rupee being charged extra from whatever has been prescribed by the government, " Qadri said. However, he quickly added that the students who earlier have paid Rs 75,000 as their tuition fee are being refunded. "We are in the process of refunding the due amount. We have even refunded the due amount to several students and have also accorded relaxation to many," he said. |
