SRINAGAR, Aug 8: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has always claimed to be champions of the rights of Kashmiri Pandits. However, the party and its leaders have failed to come up to the expectations of Kashmiri Pandits who did not leave the valley and preferred to stay back.
The handful of Kashmir Pandit families who got internally displaced in the valley is quite aghast over the 'step motherly' treatment adopted by the Government of India towards them. These people are quite upset with the BJP leadership at both the state and centre and say that they have been left in the lurch by the people at helm.
The Kashmiri Pandits who are living in the Kashmir valley have time and again approached the higher ups so that their genuine demands are not. However, up to this point of time their demands continue to be pending with no relief in sight for them. They have been running from pillar to post so that their genuine concerns are looked into.
"We had great expectations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as soon as he took over the charge but as on date he has failed us. No package whatsoever has been announced for us and we continue to feel the heat. We are not demanding moon or stars but rights that are due to us as internally displaced persons," said a group of Kashmiri Pandits.
The Kashmiri Pandits living in the valley are quite upset over the fact that whenever package is announced it is for the members of the community living outside the valley. They have been demanding a specific job package should be announced for them so that their youth don't feel frustrated after getting degrees in various courses.
"The PDP-BJP government in the state is five months old but still then nothing has been announced for us. It seems that Kashmiri Pandits living in the valley figure nowhere in the plan of action at both state as well as centre. We are living from hand to mouth and our pathetic condition has failed to move the people who are the real policy makers and decision takers," said the Kashmiri Pandits.
Most of these Kashmiri Pandits are living in rented accommodation in different areas of Srinagar city and so for no dedicated colony has been set up for them. They are ready to move to their native places provided the state government gives them some financial assistance in rebuilding their houses that were gutted during the peak of militancy. Their houses have either been virtually razed to the ground or left in the dilapidated condition by the 'miscreants'.
"We are in need of financial support from the government in order to rebuild our houses. However, as on date there is no support coming and we are being deprived on various counts. It is high time that our problems are solved so that we live a dignified life like the other citizens of the state," said the Kashmiri Pandits.
