2 soldiers injured in Tangdhar gun battle

KUPWARA, Aug 8: Two soldiers sustained injuries in Tangdhar sector near LoC in Kupwara district of North Kashmir after a fierce gun battle broke out between militants and security forces on Saturday evening.
According to senior government official, "acting on a tip off about the presence of suspected militants at Kupaa Gali in Tangdhar sector near Line of Control (LoC) the security forces launched a search operation in the thick woods.
The target area has been cordoned off and a fierce exchange of firing was going on when reports last came in.
The official said that, 'The militants were asked to surrender but they opened fire, adding that the troops retaliated and an encounter started. "The gun battle was going on when the last reports came in," he said.
The official added that it was not immediately known whether the militants were trying to sneak into this side from across the border.
Official said that, "There was no immediate report of any casuality on either side. However he immediately added that according to reports two personnel of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile Deputy Inspector General(DIG) of Police North Kashmir range, Garib Dass told Early Times that the reports that militants tried to sneak into this side of Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar area of Kupwara district.
There were minor injuries to the two jawans, as of now the search operation in the thick forests is still going on, DIG added.
It is pertinent to mention here that on July 23 this year, two militants were eliminated in an encounter which had broke out between suspected infiltrators and army along the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir.
It was learnt that, "Army's 26 Rajput manning the fence at Eagle post spotted some suspicious movement on July 23 morning and launched cordon and search operation in the area.
The infiltrators had sneaked into this side of Line of Control (LoC) July 22. However the gunfight had resulted into elimination of two militants and splinter injuries to one army officer and a soldier.
