BJP sees it as an opportunity to crush Akther | Screening Test Row | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 8: The senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and the Education Minister, Naeem Akther, who has stirred the hornet's nest by announcing that Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers would have to undergo a screening test has reportedly asked his friends in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to rein in its leaders, who have come openly in support of the ReT teachers. Sources told Early Times the Education Minister is already grappling with problems as all the opposition parties have trained their guns at him and BJP leaders joining the chorus has added to his woes. The senior BJP leader and MLC Surinder Ambardar on Friday told reporters that government should consider and think over all the genuine concerns of the ReT teachers who have been protesting from last few days against the decision of the Education Minister to conduct the screening test of all the ReT teachers to ascertain the genuineness of their educational degrees. "The entire fraternity of ReT teachers should not be troubled. We want our teachers in classrooms not on the streets," Ambardar had said. Sources said that a few BJP leaders and ministers too are opposing Akther's decision and are asking him not to be "rigid." "The Education Minister has taken a serious note about BJP leaders and ministers poking their nose in his department and objecting to his style of functioning," sources added. A PDP leader while talking to Early Times said, "The BJP leaders are crossing their breach. Since the day PDP-BJP coalition has taken the reins of the state we have not poked our nose into how BJP ministers are running their departments as we believe they are independent and are only answerable to the Chief Minister. The BJP leaders behaving like opposition party members is not acceptable. They should mind their own business rather than giving statements which can create confusion." He said that since the day new government has taken over the reins of the state BJP ministers have been hogging the headlines for one or other wrong reasons but PDP has never tried to blow the issue out of proportion nor has it ever interfered in their matters. "Someone needs to brief the BJP leaders about the coalition dharma," the PDP leader added. Insiders revealed that a few BJP ministers believe that Naeem Akther being caught on wrong foot has provided them with an opportunity to establish their writ and prove it to their detractors that they are not second fiddles and have a say in the government. "If BJP leaders don't behave and keep on poking their nose we would be left with no other option other than approaching the BJP high command," the PDP leader added. Sources said that BJP leaders have held a meeting with a few representatives of the teachers' community and have assured them that no screening test would be held. "A few BJP leaders deciding to take the Education Minister head on has not gone well with the PDP. The party is contemplating to hit back so that BJP leaders realize that JK has a coalition government," the sources added. Pertinently, row over ReT teachers started last month when a ReT teacher failed to write an essay on cow in the High Court. Following the failure of the ReT teacher, the High Court directed the Jammu and Kashmir Government to hold screening test of the ReT teachers in the state. |
