Reasi, Aug 8: A yeoman task was eventfully executed when the Assistant Regional Transport Officer hit the milestone by creating a history of sorts.
ARTO Reasi, Mohammad Salim earns a distinct reputation for being the man of action than words when his service record of 80 days as ARTO discloses Rs 9,10,000 realized by him as challan from the traffic violators.
Mohammad Salim who just joined the office some two and half months ago went straight on his job by acting swiftly and swooping on the traffic violators in the district who earlier used to make hay in the alleged absence of administrative check upon them.
" As soon as I joined my place of posting , I undertook the campaign along with my team to rectify the corrupt practice at galore in the district which have been the major source of accidents by overloading and putting passengers to all hardships by overcharging them by the vehicle pliers," Mohammad Salim while talking to Early Times.
He said only 80 days of his service have been passed and he has realized a whopping sum of Rs 9,10,000, thus alerting all the corrupt practitioners to mend their ways,
He said that he has optioned upon putting up of regular nakas at all vulnerable places where the vehicle pliers may take liberty and indulge in overloading or overcharging and his act has yeided good results.
The main effect has been done to traffic violators who used to be autorickshaw drivers who plied from Ban Ganga to Katra and vice-versa and used to charge Rs 300 per person which the ARTO has sliced down to Rs 50 only for the convenience of the pilgrims.
During his stint as ARTO for 80 days till filing of this report, Mohammad Salim has to his credit 3700 challans executed as per the law and 110 vehicles seized so far.
Meanwhile acting swiftly over the news reported in Early Times under the caption head -"Administrative-transport mafia illegally flourishing at House of Lord", police team under the supervision of SSP Reasi Sujeet Kumar IPS visited Shiv Khori Ransoo and immediately released an order for all vehicles ferrying passengers from new bus stand Shiv Khori to main Shiv Khori to charge Rs 5 only per passenger to drop them at the holy site. " I have taken the cognizance of the matter and directed my SHO to take stern action against the defaulters. Also a board displaying the actual fare has also been installed at the venue so that the pilgrims may not be overcharged," said SSP Sujeet Kumar.
Earlier the defaulters used to harass the pilgrims by charging Rs 30 per passenger.
