Jammu, Aug 8: The huge supply of sub-standard mustard oil by a big industry, set up in Kathua has been posing great risk to the public at large. According to the Public Analyst, the particulars of sample reads as, Trade name-Super Gold, Mustard Oil, M.R.P- Rs. 120, DOP: April 2015, B.No-050, net content 900 ml, Mfd by: Bharat Oil Traders Chak Gota National Highway Kathua. The sample was sent to testing in the month of June and the report is given by Public Analyst in the month of July. The report under reference number PHL/FSSA/J/403, dated 8/7/2015, says that the sample did not confirm to the standards prescribed for Mustard Oil under regulation no. 2.2.1(6) of Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food additives) regulations 2011, in respect of Saponification value, Iodine Value, Bellier Turbidity temperature test, and Butyrore- fractometer reading. "Hence declared as substandard", the report read as. The officials in Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) pleading anonymity informed Early Times that Bharat Oil Traders was a big industry and the owner had secured license from Union government rather than state government. "They are not manufacturing the oil but mustard oil is coming to factory in oil tankers and in Chak Gota factory premises, only packing is done", they said, adding that as the industry was a big industry, none dared to take action against them. "This industry is playing with the health of Jammu citizens and if an action will be initiated, the entire scandal of sub-standard oil will be exposed", he alleged. When contacted, Assistant Controller Food, Kathua, Rajan Kappor said that a complaint was made against the mustard oil product and on the same day samples were collected by a team of department. "We had sent the samples to Public Health Laboratory but so far the report of samples has not received by us. Action will be initiated against the manufacturer as per the sample report", he said. |
