CJM directs Police to book SI for beating driver
Kishtwar challan terror

Kishtwar, Aug 18: In a complaint moved by the family members of the driver of a private vehicle namely Shanawaz Khandey son of Ghulam Mohiudin Khandey resident of Sirgwari Kishtwar who was allegedly beaten by in charge police post Kuleed Kishtwar, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kishtwar directed the Station House Officer to investigate the matter in terms of section 156 (3) CrPc and submit the report before the court.
The driver was allegedly beaten for raising his voice against the use of abusive language by the accused SI while challaning the vehicles outside police post Kuleed.
As per the complaint moved before the CJM Kishtwar and arguments made by counsel of aggrieved family, their son , who happened to be the driver of the vehicle bearing registration No. JK17-451 while on its way from Sirgwari to Kishtwar was stopped by the police personals mostly SPO's outside police post Kuleed, who challaned the vehicle for overloading.
While challaning, the police personals allegedly used abusive language and on questioning the abusive behavior of the cops, the in charge police post Sub Inspector Puran Chand also appeared at the spot and joined the other policemen in hurling abuses. On raising his voice, the victim driver, was dragged inside the police post where he (driver) was beaten to pulp. The policemen on duty allegedly also decamped with the cash amounting to approximately Rs. 70000 carried by the father of the victim driver kept inside the dash board of the vehicle.
After going through the content of the application and arguments made by the counsel, CJM Kishtwar issued direction to Station House Office Kishtwar to investigate the matter.
The family members informed the "Early Times" that in charge police post has personal rift with their family, added that the brother of Sub Inspector owed them money and refused to return the same forcing them to approach the court and the case was still pending in the court.
They said that Sub Inspector tries to exert every kind of pressure on the family to withdraw the court case, which family of the victim driver refused. The police Sub Inspector is also known as "Godman" among the various circles and enjoys good influence within top ranks of police and administration.
It is pertinent to mention that the challan terror continued in Kishtwar District as more than 1500 people were challaned by Kishtwar police, traffic police and Motor Vehicle Department alone in the month of July 2015, mostly in city areas leaving more accident prone areas.
