PDP-BJP Coordination Committee fails to break the ice | 'Members agree to disagree on major issues' | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 18: The PDP-BJP Coordination Committee which met a day before the scheduled cabinet meeting to be held here on Wednesday failed to reach on consensus over the major issues, sources told Early Times. Pertinently, a 10-member CC of the coalition partners PDP and BJP was formed to ensure that the agenda for the alliance is implemented within the defined time-frame and all the policy issues adhered to in letter and spirit. However, it has not been meeting regularly and has not served the purpose for which it was constituted. Sources revealed that many issues came up for discussion during the 2-hour meeting but BJP and PDP leaders couldn't reach on the consensus over major transfers and postings in administration and Police. "Both the parties had their own priorities due to which they agreed to disagree over many issues," revealed a source. He said, "The Coordination Committee decided let the cabinet which is scheduled to meet under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in Srinagar on Wednesday discuss the appointments to State Accountability Commission (SAC), Backward Classes Commission (BCC) and filling-up of posts of vice chairpersons of more Boards/Corporations and in other departments." The source said that leaders of both the parties were of the opinion that no changes in administration and police should be made till the concerns of both the coalition partners are addressed. "A few leaders were of the opinion that government should be allowed to function smoothly. Locking horns over the issue of transfers and postings in the administration and police should not be made a prestige issue," the source added. He said the members of both the parties stressed upon the fact that they have to ensure that their constituencies are addressed and none of the partners can impose their decisions on each other," the source added. He said the CC reviewed the functioning of five-month long coalition government in the state, the on-going developmental works in the state as well as overall security situation in the aftermath of the recent militant attacks. The Coordination Committee members also discussed the performance of the ministers and leaders of both the parties, according to the sources, tried to score a point over each other. "The CC which had met to finalize the agenda of Wednesday's cabinet meeting ended up without taking any significant and concrete decisions as leaders of both the had different viewpoints," the source added.
