Govt installs CT scan machine at DH Rajouri, forgets to appoint Radiologist | | | Bijay Charak

Jammu, Aug 18: J&K's 'hyperactive' Health Minister Chowdhary Lal Singh may be boasting about his so-called measures to revolutionise the health sector, but a cursory glance at district hospital Rajouri belies all his claims. The hospital, for example, does not even have a facility like CT scan, the backbone of modern day medical care. It's not that a CT scan machine has not been provided to the hospital-it was sanctioned in 2013 and finally reached the hospital in March this year-but the machine is gathering dust because of unavailability of a Radiologist. "In the absence of Radiologist, a technician has been manning the machine," sources told Early Times. They said whenever there is an accident or a critical patient is brought to the hospital for a CT scan test, the doctors are compelled to shift the patient to Government Medical College Jammu. The CT scan machine plays a significant role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of various diseases that can lead to stroke, kidney failure or even death. The machine also helps in diagnosing and treating spinal problems and injuries to hands, feet and other skeletal structures. "Due to callousness of Health Minister Lal Singh towards rural people, many other machines are also not functioning in the hospital, though they have been installed here," sources said. "Focus of the ministers and administration is to place orders for new machinery and extract commission. After that they never bother about providing staff and other necessary requirements to make the machines functional," sources said. Asked Abdul Rehman a social activist of Rajouri: "If a CT scan machine is available in the hospital, why hasn't the government posted required staff here. The purpose for which the machine was given stands defeated as the machine is of no use." Director Health Services Jammu, BS Pathina, did not responded repeated calls from Early Times for his comment. |
