BJP cannot treated the wounded nation like this | Time for action against Pak | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 18: The nation in 2014 voted Narendra Modi to power at the centre believing that he would undo the past wrongs and follow a pro-active policy towards Pakistan and stem the rot in Kashmir. Their belief had stemmed from the speeches Narendra Modi as prime ministerial candidate made in different parts of the country, including two in the state, one each at Jammu and Hiranagar. Modi had given the nation to understand that he was unhappy with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, as he followed weak-kneed policies and committed a grave wrong in 2009 in Egypt by endorsing the Pakistani line that talks and terror could go hand-in-hand and that he, if voted to power, would deal with Pakistan in the manner it should be and restore a lasting peace in Jammu & Kashmir by taking a strong action against the anti-nationals operating in the Valley. He repeatedly gave a message that he meant business and that he would not tolerate anything non-sense. Modi did keep his word between May and October 2014 and the result was that things remained under control. However, Modi did a complete U-turn after October and thereafter he never looked back. Ever since then, he has been outraging the sensitivities of the wounded nation. He has been conducting himself in a manner that has emboldened Pakistan to intensify its anti-India activities and breach the international border and Line of Control and kill and maim our soldiers, jawans and civilians, including women and children, and that has helped Kashmiri separatists do what they couldn't before. The point is that PM Modi is pursuing policies which have the potential of further jeopardizing the paramount interests in the state and causing migration in Jammu region. In fact, the process has already started and the people are feeling insecure all across the Jammu region, which has been under bombardment for many days now. Only on Sundayand Monday, Pakistani aggressors breached the international border and Line of Control many a time, used sophisticated weapons, killed at least six civilians, including a woman, injured at least 22 others and made the people flee from their houses. According to one estimate, more than two lakh people have suffered at the hands of the Pakistani Army and ISI and Lashkar operatives and they are ready to migrate to safer places. On Monday, the Pakistani rangers, backed to the hilt by Lashkar terrorists, targeted no less than 55 BSF and Army camps. As for the number of militant attacks, the state has witnessed more than 80 dreaded attacks during the last seven months. Such is the situation in Jammu & Kashmir. Reports from Delhi and from across Jammu & Kashmir clearly suggest that the nation wants PM Modi to act against Pakistan. Enough is enough, the people are saying. They are urging the Prime Minister to appreciate the national sentiment, snap all kinds of ties with Pakistan and cancel the scheduled talks between the Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his Pakistani counterpart Sartaj Aziz. The general view in the country in general and Jammu region in particular, in fact, is that it's time to act tough and not to talk, but nothing is working. Instead of reading the writing on the wall, the Modi Government has, according to reports from New Delhi, has rejected all suggestions against Pakistan and decided to hold talks with Pakistan on August 23 and 24 in New Delhi. It's no wonder that Pakistan has been exploiting the Modi Government's policy and setting the agenda for the impending talks. "We want peace with Pakistan at whaever cost" has been the line of the Modi Government. Believe it or not, but it is a fact that many concerned Indians have come to believe that "the Modi Government may compromise the Indian position in Jammu & Kashmir and concede the Pakistani demands". "PM Modi is playing with dangerous tools. He is treading a dangerous path. He is undermining the Indian sovereignty. He is demoralizing the nationalist camp in the state," they have started saying. The worst part of the whole situation is that the local BJP leadership has also taken a complete U-turn and started toeing the Modi line. On Monday, the BJP held a press conference in Srinagar to appease the separatist and pro-Pakistan constituency in Kashmir by announcing that the BJP was for talks with Pakistan and tell the nationalist camp in the state that it didn't share its view that it was time for PM Modi to act against Pakistan. "The Pakistanis are 'our neighbours and brothers'. It doesn't suit us to engage in confrontation. It affects our economies. Though we don't need to seek permission for taking offensive measures but we are for dialogue," the BJP said. It must remain a matter of shame that the BJP is playing with the sentiments of the wounded nation and demoralizing it and the armed forces by adopting a policy that only suits the aggressor and fanatic Pakistan and negates all that the nation did before October 2014 to hold waters in Jammu and Kashmir. |
