Three bovine smugglers held, 78 animals rescued

Banihal, Sept 18: Continuing to its crackdown on Bovine smugglers, District Police today foiled major bovine smuggling bids in Banihal Sub- Division with the arrest of three accused persons besides rescuing 78 bovine animals in two separate incidents. Police spokesperson said, "A special Naka was established at Sarvadhar in Ukhral Thesil by Police party led by PSI Rohit Bhagat, IC PP Ukhral."
"During Naka checking, two persons namely Kifayat Ali S/o Gulam Rasool R/o Gurmul Doda and Rayees Ahmed S/o Mohd Iqbal R/o Kapran, who were moving in suspicious circumstances alongwith 70 bovines, were stopped for checking, "Both of them have been arrested on the spot and animals as they failed to provide requite documents for transshipment of animals and animals were rescued which were supposed to be taken from Doda District towards Kashmir via upper reaches, police said. "During questioning, it was established that bovine smugglers have changed their modus operandi of smuggling due to strong surveillance of District Police Ramban on NHW and are preferring to move through upper reaches on foot, police said. A case FIR under relevant sections has been registered at PS Ramsoo.
Meanwhile in another incident acting on specific information, a police party led by IC PP Khari SI Habib Pathan established a special naka at Mangit and intercepted one Sakhi Mohd S/o Abdul Rashid R/o Dharam carrying eight (08) bovines on foot towards Kashmir valley via Mangit from Gool.
As he was unable to produce any permission and thus was arrested on the spot, accordingly a case FIR u/s 188 RPC stands registered at P/S Banihal. The arrests have been made by both I/c PPs under the supervision of Inspector Tariq Naik SHO PS Banihal, Inspector Nazir Ahmed Dar, SHO PS Ramsoo, SDPO Banihal Mohd Rafiq and Randeep Kumar, SSP Ramban.
