ET Report
jammu, Sept 18: A Minister of the coalition Government is reportedly leaving no stone unturned to establish Medical College-sanctioned for Kathua district-near his residence in Rajbagh near Delhi Public School (DPS), with a sole motive to get, cost of his land, hiked manifolds.
Sources informed Early Times that the State Cabinet which had met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on 19/8/2015, had approved transfer of land to Health and Medical Education Deptt for proposed medical college in various districts including Kathua.
"In case of proposed Medical College for Kathua, 200 Kanals of State land in the two identified villages was discussed to be provided to Health and Medical Education Deptt very soon", sources said, adding that the identified land which was finalized for proposed Medical College, by Kathua administration was in Tehsil Mareen.
Sources further said though State Government had sought 200 Kanals of State land free of cost and the opportunity was best utilized by none other than a Minister from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), and it has been reported that the land identified was adjoining to the residential house near Delhi Public School Rajbagh.
"Near his Rajbagh residence, there is availability of State land and majority of the State land was the same, which was retrieved by District Administration Kathua on the orders of High Court from family trust of the Minister", sources said.
They further informed that though a case was already pending against the Educational Trust being run by Minister's family but the Minister has played very safe by getting the land identified near his controversial piece of land in Rajbagh, against which a court case was pending. "Just formality is required to transfer the land to Department of Health and Medical Education and it will only benefit the Minister, whose family is already running an institute in Rajbagh", sources said.
Sources further said that many Ministers successfully got changed the sites of development projects as per their whims and fancies and this Minister was no exception, as earlier it was Minister from the Congress party, who had also got transferred a Hospital in his constituency in Gandhi Nagar, violating the standard guidelines.
Pertinently, five colleges were sanctioned by Government of India, in February 2014 and according to guidelines of Medical Council of India, the State is required to acquire 25 acres of land in plain areas and 20 acres in hilly areas for construction of Medical College and funds would only be released by GoI, once the land is acquired.
