"Powerful" thana police register 2 cases for 1 crime | Act of arbitrariness, highhandedness | | Early Times Report jammu, Sept 18: In an apparent act of arbitrariness and highhandedness, police of a Jammu police station have registered two cases for one crime just to harass the accused. It so happened that cops of a police station came across a car that was parked by the roadside in Nowabad area late last night. When they peeped into the car through its glass window, they found three youth who were taking liquor, according to police sources. The cops whisked them away to the police station and booked them under the relevant sections of law. But the car was seized under section 550 of RPC which means it was abandoned there with no one inside. "This is untrue because the three drunkards were taken into custody while taking liquor inside the car," sources alleged. Police did so for obvious reasons to harass the youth who "belong to rich families because taking liquor in a car is not a big crime but seizure of the vehicle under section 550 of RPC is a big crime", sources said. "Police cannot register two cases for one crime as it is unlawful and challengeable," sources said. |
